Some time ago, this summer cottage
was converted into a two-story year-round house, but the crudely constructed
stairs leading to the second floor were
so steep that the homeowners had to
use their hands to climb it like a ladder.
The house was built out from the front to
provide a 7x12 foyer, including storage,
and allow for a new set of stairs. The
build-out also allowed for a new shaded
front porch. A fiberglass entry door was
centered on the front, and other exterior
details were added to make this look
like a year-round house, including
architectural shingles and new siding.

Four layers of ceiling treatment had to
be removed to correct the messy wiring
runs of the electrical system and to put
in more insulation.
