Because this home is in the Historic
District, the designers had to add space
within the existing home’s footprint. The
existing kitchen was small, and divided
from the dinette by a chin cabinet and
pantry. These needed to be removed to
capture light from the bay window in the
dinette and also give the homeowner
line of site into the backyard so she
could keep an eye on the children.

Because this home is in the Historic
District, any exterior modifications had
to follow strict guidelines for design and
materials being used and also had to be
approved by the Historic Commission—
this is what needed to be done to get
approval to enlarge the bay window in
the kitchen.
