These homeowners wanted to update their home to include Universal Remodeling, as well as green features. Some of the Universal Remodeling features include an exterior ramp discretely integrated into the front landscaping, an interior elevator, curbless showers, wider door frames, and a bathroom vanity with an adjustable height counter with electric motor.

Some of the green products used include solar panels

that provide most of the home’s electricity, home automation for energy efficiency and low VOC paints and stains used throughout. Salvaged wood was used to create the exterior ramp, and the kitchen cabinets are all FSC certified and formaldehyde free.

Many Asian features are also incorporated into the home’s design, such as the Shoji doors that retract to create a larger doorway.

These clients, whose family has owned an exterior roofing and siding company since 1939, wanted their office space updated and their warehouse space turned into a retail showroom.

This project was completed in three phases to allow the business to stay open during construction. Phase 1 was to create the warehouse shell so that temporary offices could be moved there during the office remodeling phase; Phase 2 was demolition and remodeling of the office and lobby area; and Phase 3 was assembling the building facades in the new showroom.

Previous to the remodel, the conference room was the only space that had a door into the warehouse space, creating a lot of traffic in a room that needed privacy. In addition, the front entrance was the only place to display samples and finished images. The new floor plan has easy access to the showroom as well as clearly defined pathways to navigate the office space.
