Because of decreased mobility, the owners of this home wanted to add a master suite to the main level of the home. As there was already a bedroom on that level, it was decided to extend it, as well as expand the deck to wrap around the length of the home. French doors from the new master suite allow the owner to access the new wheelchair lift through the new master bedroom. Two custom-made matching transition-pieces allow access through the door with the wheelchair.

The bathroom proved to be challenging, in part because of the type of therapeutic bathtub that was chosen. The tub had a door that opened as well as a bench for sitting, and to fit all the components in the bathroom, measurements had to be spot-on. Other challenges included matching the materials of the additional space to the original materials used. For instance, Ipe, which was the material used on the original deck, also was used on the addition, in the same pattern, using the same hidden fastening system.
