The rooms created with this addition included a master suite, secondary bedroom, hall bath and craft room. The location of the chimney and stair requirements dictated the layout of the second floor. The new master suite includes a dream bath, with separate sinks, private water closet, two-person tub and steam shower, a dressing area plus storage. To work around the chimney, the hall bath is tucked into the attic space at the front of the house. The washer and dryer in the new laundry room are tucked under the sloped ceiling area. The craft room has built-in cabinets, custom inserts and under counter task lighting.

Other challenges of this project include reworking the existing masonry openings to accommodate egress size window units in the secondary bedroom and craft room, as well as aligning the new shed dormer with the existing living room windows so that it looks like an original part of the house. To create the higher ceilings in what was the attic, a new whaleback portion of the roof now extends over the existing main ridgeline.
