Sometimes unexpected obstacles turn
up during projects, as was the case for
this outdoor entertaining area. Originally, it was going to be a multi-level
deck area replacing an old porch made
of pressure-treated wood on a concrete
slab. However, during permitting, it was
discovered that the home’s existing well
and septic fields were not located on the
property where the plat showed them to
be. Because of that, feasibility tests had
to be run to determine a new location,
the existing septic and well systems had
to be shut down and reconstructed
before the new patio could be created.

Once that was completed, the items
the homeowners wanted on the outside
entertaining area could be added. These
included an outdoor kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite countertop, a wood-burning fireplace and pit,
copper gutters, coffered ceilings, recessed and spot lighting and dry space
under the decking. Faux stone was used
throughout as edging. All the materials
used on this space are weather resilient
for low maintenance.
