After a lower-level wine cellar was
created in their home, the homeowners
decided to create a multi-season, open-air veranda outdoor living space. It
would have a 20-foot cultured stone
fireplace for when it got cool, and all the
appliances and plumbing would be able
to be winterized, as this was the
Midwest. Because the homeowners’
association deemed that no stand-alone
outdoor structures could be built, a
decorative trellis anchors the outdoor
space to the indoor. The space also
follows the contours of the already-established landscaping plan.

Other items of note in this outdoor space
include a Southern-style ceiling with
v-grooving and oversized paddle fans, a
cultured stone bar that varies in height
between 36 inches and 43 inches and a
fully equipped kitchen that has two
stainless steel grills. This space added
about 750 square feet of structure to the
home, has a 12x12 foot ceiling vault and
10 foot columns.
